Hidden away high above Charlestown in historic Hamilton Estate, Bananas Restaurant is surrounded by over an acre of lush tropical gardens. Old stonewalls covered in passion fruit vines and bougainvillea wind through the property lending an overgrown natural ambience to the garden. Follow one of the hidden pathways and find a hammock or a hand carved bench and rest in the shade enjoying the peace and tranquility around you.
Bananas was lovingly built in the style of the old Caribbean Chattel houses. Walaba shingles, wooden shutters, Island stone floors and a wrap around rustic galvanized porch, together with chandeliers and old iron day beds lend a “shabby Chic” atmosphere to the restaurant. Eclectic touches such as antique toys, old skis, riding boots and a collection of antique hats add an air of eccentricity and informality to the place.
The porch serves as the main dining area and over looks the gardens with the Caribbean Sea in the background (the sunsets are exceptional). Steps lead down into the garden and we have several areas for dining al fresco, we also have a gazebo in the garden that seat up to 10 people for those of you looking for a more personal dining experience.
Bananas is less than 10 minutes from Charlestown and the Four seasons, 15 minutes from Oualie beach and from Gingerland we are even closer.
